Box Score 2 PHOENIX, Ariz. --- Sometimes softball just isn't fair. A day where your team manages to put 18 runs on the board in a doubleheader and comes away with a pair of tough losses definitely qualifies as one of those days.

That's what happened to Head Coach
Lorie Coleman's team on Friday afternoon as the team's Arizona road trip was soured a bit after an awesome first day with an 11-10 loss and 10-8 loss at Arizona Christian.

The first game ended in agony for the Eagles who had clawed and scratched their way out of a late hole to get in position to win the game heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Firestorm did not lay down at all after surrendering a two-run lead in the top half of the inning. The first two batters of the inning reached, putting the game-winning run on base with nobody out and putting
Kaile Chavez in quite the predicament.

Chavez was able to keep the runners away from the plate as she got a popup and a groundball out to second base, but ACU's Paige Church hit a double down the left field line two score the game-tying and game-winning runs with two outs in the inning and give the Firestorm a confidence-building walk-off win.

The Eagles had 12 hits in the opener and took advantage of four Arizona Christian errors to score their 10 runs, six of which came in an explosive second inning.

Biola pushed six runs across on five hits in the second frame of the day, with the help of a pair of two-RBI doubles off the bats of
Hailey Boyett and
Jay Perez. Unfortunately for the Eagles the two-run double turned sour when that's the same type of hit that lifted ACU to its sixth Golden State Athletic Conference win of the year.

The second game was just as agonizing for the Eagles. Biola allowed ACU seven first inning runs and then outscored them 6-3 over the remainder of the game, but came up just short in another loss. The second game win handed the Firestorm a 3-1 season series victory over the Eagles.

The win was clinched in the bottom of the fifth for the Firestorm. They scored two runs on a Ashlynn Preciado homerun to push the game to 10-4 with Biola only having six offensive outs left to work with.

Coach Coleman's squad did what the could to maximize those six outs and were able to push across four more runs to make it into a ballgame.
Selina Sherlin and
Areana Ramos hit back-to-back homeruns in the top of the sixth to pull the Eagles back within two and setup an exciting top of the seventh. Sherlin had a fabulous time in the desert, going 8-for-15 with a pair of homeruns and six RBI over the last two days.

Biola was able to get two runners on during their final at-bats, but they could not push any across and ultimately suffered the loss to drop to 16-16-2 (6-10 GSAC) for the season. Arizona Christian became 25-20 (7-11 GSAC).

The Eagles return to Freedom Field on Tuesday for their final home games of the 2017 season. Biola hosts San Diego Christian beginning at 5:00 p.m. The Senior Night celebration will begin about 30 minutes before first pitch.
