Eagles Run At CSUN In First Half

Biola returns from the break with a exhibition in Northridge.

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- Biola took a trip to one of the most unique home courts in the BigWest on Thursday night, traveling to the Matadome for the exhibition with CSUN.

The Eagles built a early five-point lead and were within ten points of the Matadors for the majority of the first half before the NCAA Division I opponent eventually pulled away for a 68-51 victory.

Freshman Jazz Benn played a bright spot for Biola yet again on Thursday, reaching 10 points in 16 minutes of play in the first half.

The Matadors countered with 19 points and seven rebounds from their leading scorer, Channon Fluker, in the first 20 minutes and turned the tide of the game midway through the half with a 15-0 run that put CSUN in the driver's seat.

Fluker eventually finished with 30 points and 10 rebounds for the 40th double-double of her career.

The Eagles eventually went down by 21 at the end of the third quarter but found a way to give the home team a scare with a admirable run of their own in the fourth. Two made free throws from Emma Newman with 7:17 to play sparked 10 unanswered points for Head Coach Alan Nakamura's team over the next three minutes, forcing CSUN to rethink their defensive game plan during the media timeout.

Newman continued to build on her contributions to Biola's efforts after being cleared to play three weeks ago. The sophomore forward filled the stat sheet in her fourth game back, with five points, seven rebounds and two steals in 18 minutes.

The Eagles will return to Chase Gym on Dec. 30 for their final countable game of the calendar year at 12:30 p.m. Biola welcomes Western University from Ontario to La Mirada after the Mustangs lost to Vanguard, 67-56, on Thursday.
