PREVIEW: NCCAA Women’s Soccer Championship

The top two teams in the tournament field face off for the title.

December 02, 2017

KISSIMMEE, Fla. --- Coming off an exhilarating conclusion to their semifinal match, the Biola Eagles are expecting their excitement to carry them through 90 more minutes of play in Saturday's NCCAA Women's Soccer Championship.

The Eagles will take on the tournament's No. 1 seed, Indiana Wesleyan, who has also shutout all three opponents it has face in the NCCAA Championships.

The Wildcats have played the tournament's No. 9, No. 6 and No. 5 seeds in their first three matches and have a tournament-best 12 goals. Four individuals have scored at least two goals this week, with freshman midfielder Amy Jaron leading the team with three goals. La Habra, Calf. native Tia Sanford has scored 20 goals this season for IWU to go along with 10 assists.

Indiana Wesleyan is an NAIA program that just missed out on the NAIA nationals after going 0-2-2 against teams appearing in the NAIA poll and losing to Taylor University in its conference semifinal.

The Eagles come into the Championship as the more battle-tested, battle-proven side, if only for overcoming a challenging opponent in Concordia Ann Arbor in the semifinal. Biola's mad dash in the final minute to create a cornerkick and force an own goal with 11.6 seconds left in regulation is proof that the Eagles can win any match when their defense stays sharp for 90 minutes.

And like the Wildcats, the Eagles have a number of players who can score at any given time. Seven individual players have scored for Biola during NCCAA competition and five have found the back of the net during the team's time in Florida.

The championship will be live streamed by Tourbeau Sports Group at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/tourbeau/. There is a fee for the broadcast.
