Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Auble Scores 29, Eagles Win

Levi Auble sets a new season-best with 29 points against Pomona-Pitzer.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Men's Basketball sure has a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving season. Even more following a big 70-60 victory at home over Pomona-Pitzer on Tuesday night.

Levi Auble set the team's new season-high with a 29-point performance and freshman wing man Michael Bagatourian had his first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Six of those 10 rebounds were on the offensive end, which was critical in the Eagles' ability to extend to a 10-point game.

Biola never trailed in the game and the only tie was at 2-2. After that a stretch of 13 of the next 18 points going the way of the Eagles built up a buffer that never subsided. Neither team shot all that well in the first half, with both sides shooting under 30 percent 15 minutes into the game. At the end of the first 20 minutes they were both just over 37 percent and Biola held a slim 32-28 advantage.

The Eagles outscored the Sagehens 38-32 in the second half, powered mostly by out-rebounding Pomona-Pitzer 18-12.

"Everyone played well tonight. That's what I am most happy about," said Michael Bagatourian. "Levi, Blake and Trevor played really well. Those are the juniors and seniors we look up to. When they play well we win."

Bagatourian had six points and six rebounds in the final 20 minutes (including half of his six offensive rebounds), and he and Trevor Treinen both played the full 20 minutes.

Auble split his scoring 17-12, accounting for more than half of the team's total output in the first. He limited himself to just two fouls tonight too.

The Eagles' starting five did most of the work this evening as Head Coach Dr. Dave Holmquist got just two points from off the bench in a combined 36 minutes on the floor.

Trevor Treinen led the team with 38 minutes and reached double-digits with 14 points. He had a bit of an off shooting night by going just 3-of-13 from the floor, but he more than made up for it with 6-of-7 shooting at the foul stripe. Blake Shannon, Jr. set a new season-high with seven assists.

Isaiah Jones brought down six rebounds off the bench, but both he and Alex Talma battled foul trouble all night. Talma fouled out with right points in 20 minutes. Jones had the Eagles' two bench points and had four fouls in 12 minutes. Both of them should clean that up and look to bounce back strong tomorrow.

The win gives Biola five in a row against Pomona-Pitzer and four in a row this season. The team is now 4-2 and awaits a 7:00 p.m. game with Life Pacific (4-2) on Wednesday night. The Eagles have never lost to LPC.
