Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Biola Beat By #7 Chico

Eagles suffer another loss on night two of the 2017-18 season.

SAN MARCOS, Calif. --- For the second time in as many days Biola Men's Basketball had the task of going head-to-head with one of the top teams in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Saturday's battle - No. 7 Chico State.

The Wildcats used supreme shooting in the second half to pull away from the Eagles and earn an 80-58 victory. Chico State scored 40 points in each half and limited Biola to 28 in the first and 30 in the second. Chico shot 64 percent from the floor in the first half and nearly 56 percent for the game.

The win pushes Chico to 1-1 on the new season and drops the Eagles to 0-2. Biola was within 10 points with 11 minutes to play, but then BU could score only 12 points over those final 11 minutes and ended up with a wider margin of defeat.

Michael Bagatourian was once again a bright spot for Dr. Dave Holmquist's squad. It was a day when the Eagles had to do without two starters (Blake Shannon, Jr. and Alex Talma), and Bagatourian sure did step up.

The freshman wing led all players on the floor with 18 points in 28 minutes. Perhaps most impressive was that he did so on 8-of-13 (61%) shooting. He added four assists and two steals while limiting himself to just one foul.

It was his made three that allowed the Eagles to pull back within 10 and threaten as time ran down in the second half.

Levi Auble (13) and Isaiah Jones (10) also scored in double-digits. Auble shot 5-of-9 in what was actually a much improved shooting performance all around by the Eagles. The team went 23-of-47 from the floor to shoot 49 percent for the contest. They were also improved from deep as they made 4-of-7 in a dialed back effort after yesterday's 23 three-point shots.

The daggers in today's loss were turnovers (17) and a big negative margin in rebounding. The Eagles pulled in just 21 boards, while their opponents grabbed 31, including eight on the offensive end.

Biola's season continues on Tuesday evening as they have their home opener against Antelope Valley (2-2). Before that the team will participate in Midnight Madness on Sunday evening at 11:12 p.m.

The event is open to all current and prospective students.
