Eagles Soar To Second-Straight Sweep

Biola beats Academy of Art to move to 7-3 in league.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. --- For the second time in as many nights Biola Volleyball earned itself a three-set sweep (25-22, 25-23, 25-16) over a Northern California PacWest Conference foe. The Eagles stormed into Kezar Pavilion and earned the victory in their first-ever matchup with Academy of Art.

The Eagles had to work a bit harder to earn this three-set win than they did last night, but pulled it off just the same. Even with the close set scores in two of the three sets Biola never trailed even once in the match.

Both of the first two sets were really close and the final set was the one that really put things away. Sets one and two would not have been as close if not for some long stretches of resiliency shown in the middle of the sets by ART U. The first set, for example, included a nine-point run by the Urban Knights before they came up short.

The Eagles dominated the third set from start to finish and hit .393, which was their best offensive output of the evening. Academy of Art had opposite fortunes in the third as it was the only set in the match when a team hit negative (-.065).

The usual suspects dominated the stat line on Thursday night as Karly Dantuma was the Eagles' leading attacker with 10 kills. She hit .333 and only committed two attack errors. Sierra Bauder was next on the hit list with seven kills. She led all attackers with a .400 attack percentage and was also dominated defensively with a role in eight of the Eagles' nine total blocks.

Sabrina Winslow continued her hot streak with seven kills and four blocks. Sami Hover and Tess Van Grouw each reached double-digits in digs to hold ART U to just .068 hitting.

The win makes Biola 13-5 (7-3 PacWest) and helps them sit just one game behind Azusa Pacific for second place in the league. Academy of Art falls to 4-15 (1-11 PacWest).

The Eagles' road trip to NorCal concludes this Saturday with an important matchup with Notre Dame de Namur (11-9, 6-6 PacWest) at 3:00 p.m.
