Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 ROCKLIN, Calif. --- Biola enjoyed a nice one and a half hour flight up to Sacramento before facing new Golden State Athletic Conference foe William Jessup for a doubleheader on Tuesday.
Â
The Eagles experienced no jet lag, cruising to a 5-1 victory in game one and using the never-fading Madrid magic to guy out a 5-3 victory in extra innings during the nightcap.
Â
Reba DePriest got the start in game one. She didn't have her strikeout stuff working quite as much as normal, but utilized control, zero walks, to neutralize the Warriors hitters through four innings of work before handing the ball over to
Kimmy Triolo.
Â
That four innings of work allowed her offense to get to work and build her a lead. The Eagles got on the board right away as
Kasey Hormel, batting cleanup for the first time this season, launched one out of the park to score herself and
Brooke Madrid in the top of the first inning.
Â
Biola would get one more for DePriest in the top of the third inning as a
Iliana Morales single pushed Hormel across the plate for the second time on the day and made it a 3-0 game.
Â
DePriest allowed an inning opening double in the bottom of the fourth before retiring three straight hitters. However, the groundout and flyout that posted the first two outs were enough to push that double hitter home and make it a 3-1 game.
Â
The Eagles' final two runs of the first contest came in their final at bats. Hormel, Morales and Ashlet Spadt all got on via singles and
Kendall Maddox got a pinch-hit two-RBI single to bring the score to its final.
Game two was a bit more exciting, as the Eagles actually found themselves looking up at the Warriors late in the game, trailing 2-3 to begin the seventh inning.
Â
DePriest combined with
Terri Van Dagens to allow the three runs to the Warriors, despite allowing just four hits to WJU in six innings of work. Two homeruns provided the pop necessary to make Biola sweat heading into the seventh.
Â
The Madrid's both flied out as the first and second batters in the inning, making the situation even more pressure packed. A Hormel walk got her on base with two outs. She was moved over when Maddox reached on a dropped third strike, WHEW, and then freshman
Anjie Amezquita, who apparently has ice in her veins, tied the game with a one-run double.
Â
Triolo ended the game with two perfect innings of work, garnering six groundouts, and she got the win after shutting out WJU in the bottom of the seventh following
Bria Madrid and
Brooke Madrid RBI singles in the top half of the inning.
Â
Biola moves to 19-7 (6-2 GSAC), while the Warriors fall to 9-17 (1-5 GSAC). Biola gets back at it on Saturday for its toughest test of the season so far, a road doubleheader at No. 8 Concordia.
