Lights Out On The Eagles

Biola is held without a single shot-on-goal by a suffocating CSUSM defense.

Box Score SAN MARCOS, Calif. --- Biola's offensive struggles continued on Saturday afternoon as it posted a goose egg against CSU San Marcos and lost its second straight match, this one was 1-0.

The two teams were competitive throughout, but it was clear that the home team had the upper hand throughout the match, getting double the amount of shots and keeping the Eagles without a single shot-on-goal.

Possession went back-and-forth throughout the first half, and the two teams went into the locker room deadlocked. Even at the half CSUSM had the distinct shooting and attacking advantage.

The Cougars put two shots-on-goal in the half, both of which where swiftly swept aside by Biola's goalkeeper, JT Addington.

CSUSM took control of the match right out of the gate during the second frame, as they came out shooting, and shooting on target.

Their second opportunity of the half is the one that paid off, when two crisp passes from the Cougars' midfield found the foot of Sullivan Tobin, who was cutting inside and able to bury one past an outstretched JT Addington in the 54th minute.

The goal allowed the Cougars to play back on their heels just a little bit, but they still outshot Biola 4-3 over the remaining 30-plus minutes.

CSU San Marcos' keeper, Zach Sheppard earns a shutout for the day, despite not being tested by a single Biola shot-on-goal.

Biola's played great in the defensive end, and Addington put forth a great performance in the losing effort. He ended the afternoon with four saves, making it three times this season he's needed at least four saves.

The Eagles fall to 3-2-1 at the conclusion of their preseason slate. Biola has a quick turnaround before beginning conference play at Arizona Christian on Tuesday evening.
