LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Men's Soccer created enough chances to make Saturday night's meeting with Point Loma interesting, but the Eagles could not find the finish in a 2-0 loss at Al Barbour Field.
The defeat dropped Biola to 4-7-3 overall and 3-2-1 in PacWest play, while Point Loma improved to 8-3-3 and 5-1 in conference competition.
Point Loma broke through first in the 22nd minute, but the Eagles responded with their best stretch of pressure before halftime.
Biola ultimately outshot the Sea Lions 9-6 in the opening 45 minutes and forced four saves.
Kyle Denn put two attempts on frame during that stretch,
Cruz Navarro forced another stop, and
Gauthier Caloz tested the upper corner in the 40th minute. The Eagles also earned three first-half corners but went to the break trailing 1-0.
Biola continued searching for an equalizer after halftime. Denn forced his third save of the night in the 67th minute, but Point Loma eventually gained some breathing room when Jack Merrill converted a penalty kick in the 80th minute. It's the fourth penalty kick goal Biola's surrendered in this 2026 season.
Even down two, the Eagles nearly found a way back into the match.
Ethan Michael put a shot on goal just seconds after the penalty, and Navarro struck the left post in the 84th minute, narrowly missing a goal that could have created a frantic finish.Â
Biola finished with 14 shots and six on goal, compared with 15 shots and four on target for Point Loma. The result ended a strong personal run for Denn, who had scored in six consecutive matches entering Saturday.
He remains the PacWest's leading goal scorer and also leads the conference in shots and shots on goal.
Point Loma's victory moves the Sea Lions to 15 conference points, putting them atop the PacWest based on results completed through Saturday night. Biola remains on 10 points, behind Point Loma, Dominican, Vanguard and Westmont.
That makes Biola's next match especially significant.
The Eagles host fourth-place Westmont on Friday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. at Al Barbour Field, with a victory allowing Biola to jump the Warriors in the conference race before closing the regular season at Vanguard and Concordia.
