Sizzling In San Diego

Biola hits the road and hits the ball all over the park in a doubleheader sweep at San Diego Christian.

Brooke Madrid had a stellar game at the plate, going 4-for-6 with four runs scored and three RBI.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SANTEE, Calif. --- It was supposed to be close and competitive. It was supposed to be an ultimate showdown between two teams tied for first place, but what is ended up being was two blowout wins for Biola.

The Eagles continued their 12-game winning streak with a doubleheader sweep of the San Diego Christian Hawks on Tuesday afternoon. Biola won both games handily as they took the first contest 7-1 and won in a game shortened by the eight-run rule in the nightcap, 10-2.

A bus scheduling mishap nearly caused the Eagles to miss the games altogether, as the team arrived at the Santee Sportsplex with just mere minutes to spare.

The rushed pregame schedule did not slow the Eagles' offense down at all, as the team came rushing out with two quick hits and a run in the first inning of the opener to keep the game on track.

One run scored for the Hawks in the second inning to tie it up on a wild pitch.

That was the closest that either game would get for the rest of the day, as Biola went on to score the last six runs of the early game and first seven of the late game to eventually outscore the Hawks 17-3 on the afternoon.

The Eagles' pitchers put in solid efforts, as Head Coach Lorie Coleman was able to use four different women in the circle through the two contests. Kimmy Triolo faced three batters in the fourth inning of the nightcap to get her first experience in the circle this season.

Triolo gave the ball up to Reba DePriest, who finished both games off and got wins in each contest to improve to 9-0 on the season. He ERA shrunk to seven scoreless innings on the day.

Biola's bats were the highlights of the day, as Brooke Madrid, Mackenzie Magro and Sarah Stromwall each had multi-hit performances in the first game. They were the bottom three hitters in Coleman's lineup, giving an added boost of unexpected offense.

Madrid and Stromwall were two of four Eagles to have multi-hit contest in the high-scoring second game. They were joined by the Eagles' leadoff hitter and starting pitcher CeCe Luster and Ashley Spadt.

Seven of the Eagles' 17 runs on the afternoon were in some way caused by Madrid. She scored four of them and drove in another three from the box. Her performance today helped her up her season batting average from .322 to above .350.

Magro's hits in both contest improved her team-leading hitting streak to 11 games and upped her on-base streak to 12 games. She and Spadt have each reached base safely over the last 12 contests.

Biola entered the season with the goal of reaching the 35-win mark. The team lost seven of its chances to pick up wins due to rainouts, but it is more than halfway there, needing just 14 more wins to make it happen. The Eagles have 18 games left on the regular-season schedule including their next series, a home doubleheader against Vanguard on Saturday.
