Box Score ROCKLIN, Calif. --- Biola's 9-0 start to the 2014-15 men's basketball season seems like a distant memory now that the team has two losses in its last three games following a disappointing 75-56 loss to William Jessup in game two of Golden State Athletic Conference play.
Â
The Eagles buried themselves in this one with 20 turnovers, tying their previous season-high set in an earlier win over Fisk (Tenn.). It didn't help the cause that the Warriors made 13 three-point field goals, including nine in a surging second half of scoring.
Â
Biola stayed within four points, 28-24, in the first half because it outshot the Warriors in all three facets. William Jessup did its best to avoid having the lead by going just 2-9 from the free throw line in that half, a mark they would sure up in the second frame.
Â
The Eagles sured nothing up in that half, getting outscored 47-32 as the Warriors earned their first conference win in front of a small home crowd.
Â
Rob Frank, Chris Murry and Justin Downer led the second-half charge for William Jessup with eight made three-pointers between them and 27 of the Warriors' 47 points. The trio shot 9-11 from the floor in the decisive final 20 minutes.
Â
In contrast, Biola's big three of
Mike Kurtz,
Pierre Zook and
Dakari Archer went just 4-9 from the floor for 13 points in the half. Those numbers were definitely not enough for Biola to overcome the 18 total points it gifted to the Warriors off of turnovers.
Â
William Jessup remained in control for most of the night, with Biola scoring the opening basket and then retaking a two-point lead, at the most, two other times on the night, both in the first half.
Â
The Eagles' ended the game shooting worse from the field and from three-point range than the Warriors, but they did shoot nearly 80 percent from the free-throw line in 14 opportunities. It was Biola's best free-throw shooting performance since the season-opener. Again, it was not good enough to help overcome the turnovers.
Â
Kurtz led the Eagles' efforts with 10 points on 4-8 shooting overall. He added a team-high six rebounds as Biola narrowly outrebounded the Warriors, 32-30.
Â
The loss drops Biola to 10-2 (1-1 GSAC) on the season as William Jessup improves to 9-2 (1-1 GSAC). The Eagles resume GSAC play and its regular-season schedule against Arizona Christian on Dec. 13.
