Box Score IRVINE, Calif. --- The No. 4 Biola volleyball team played its first match away from the comfort of Chase Gymnasium on Saturday, but they looked as comfortable as could be in a 3-0 sweep over No. 25 Carroll College.
Â
The Eagles opened the 2013 Asics/Wyndham Labor Day Classic by picking up right where they left off after their last game, also a sweep, against Concordia (Ore.).
Â
BU went into the match 4-0 and had the whole week to prepare to face a ranked opponent for the second time this season.
Â
The first set was a closely contested battle that saw the lead change or tie seven different times before BU took the lead for good when they went ahead 6-5. They would eventually win the set 25-19.
Â
Carroll continued to play the Eagles close though, never trailing by more than six points. Biola was able to pick up 18 kills in the first set, the highest set total in the match, while they held the Fighting Saints to nine.
Â
Set two was even more of a back and forth battle between the two squads as Carroll was in contention all the way up until BU took the lead 17-16 and then held it.
Â
Joclyn Kirton picked up four kills in set two, on her way to a team-leading 14 in the match.
Â
The match was pretty well in hand heading into the third set when Biola quickly sealed the deal, finishing off Carroll 25-19 and ending the match in just over an hour.
Â
Gracee Gallarda tacked 30 assists onto her career total that continues to climb the BU all-time charts, and she added a double double by picking up 10 digs.
Â
