Box Score 2 IRVINE, Calif. --- Biola put up a good showing against Concordia--better than many teams had fared thus far against the top team in the NAIA. However, despite the improved showing, Biola was swept in the GSAC doubleheader by scores of 7-0 and 8-2 on Saturday afternoon.
Biola drops to 21-24 on the season and falls to 5-7 in GSAC play while Concordia moves to 38-3 and stays perfect at 14-0 in conference action.
Biola had a tough time getting much going in the first game against one of the NAIA's top pitchers in Katie Cotta. After being no-hit by the All-American last time out, Biola was able to break through with three hits this time. Ashley Spadt got the first one, a single in the fifth with one out. She would move to second, but was stranded there. Brooke and Bria Madrid each added a hit in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively.
Concordia opened the scoring with a five-run third inning, taking advantage of a pair of Biola errors to break the game open. The home side added two more runs in the sixth on back-to-back solo home runs and cruised to a 7-0 win.
Game two went a bit better for Biola which was able to get its first two runs of the season against top-ranked Concordia.
Concordia again used a five-run inning to get the scoring going in the second inning. The frame was capped off by a grand slam home run which made it 5-0.
Biola was able to get two back without a hit in the third, using a pair of walks and a Concordia error to draw within three at 5-2.
However, Concordia added three more runs in the fifth and allowed just one hit and three base runners over the final four innings to pull out the win.
Biola remains on the road for its next two games, playing at Hope International University in a GSAC doubleheader on Tuesday beginning at 2:00 p.m.
