Box Score 3 LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end with a pair of tough losses on Saturday, falling 5-3 to William Jessup University and losing 8-0 in five inning to No. 1 Cal State San Marcos at Freedom Field in La Mirada.
The Eagles drop to 11-14 with the losses. William Jessup, which lost 2-0 to Cal State San Marcos to start the day, finishes the trip at 16-8. The Cougars won both games they played to improve to 20-3 with their 12th-straight win.
Biola fell behind early in the first game as the Warriors opened with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, capped by Brittany Lamar's two-run home run.
The Warriors added another in the third as Lamar struck again with an RBI-single to right to give William Jessup a 4-0 lead.
Biola rallied in the fifth, finally able to get to starter Andrea Lutz, who allowed just two hits through the first four innings. Sarah Stromwall opened the fifth wing a single and moved to second on a walk to Mackenzie Magro. The bases were loaded as Celina Thornton reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases.
Brooke Madrid got the Eagles on the board with a fielder's choice, RBI. Her sister--pinch-hitter Bri Madrid--then added another run in similar fashion as the Eagles beat out another play at the play. One out later, Sam Roberts singled home a third run to make it a 4-3 game. But back-to-back strikeouts ended the inning with the bases loaded for the Eagles.
Biola was able to manage just one more hit the rest of the way as William Jessup added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to win 5-3.
The second game started off rough with Cal State San Marcos scoring five unearned runs in the top of the first inning, taking advantage of three Biola errors.
The Cougars would add three more in the third inning and held the Eagles to just two hits in five inning for the 8-0 win.
Brooke Madrid had two hits on the day, as did Chelsea Limm. Sarah Enriquez pitched both games, falling to 8-5 with the pair of losses.
Biola returns to action on Tuesday, opening GSAC play with a doubleheader at Vanguard University, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
