Box Score 2 LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola allowed four runs in the first inning of both games and struggled to get enough offense to overcome the early deficit, falling 6-1 and 4-1 in a non-conference doubleheader against former GSAC rival Azusa Pacific University on Tuesday afternoon.
The Eagles drop to 4-12 on the season while the Cougars move to 8-6.
Biola had a tough time overcoming the early deficits and as Azusa Pacific's pitcher's limited the Eagles' ability to get much going.
In game one, the Cougars got on the board first with four runs against Eagles' starter CeCe Luster. The biggest blow came on a hard hit ball back up the middle which glanced off of Luster's hand and allowed a run to score. Luster was injured and worked out of the inning, but was unable to go any further in the game.
Sarah Enriquez came on and threw five hitless innings, striking out three. Sam Roberts closed out the final inning, allowing a hit but no runs.
However, the Eagles offense could not come up with much, recording just one hit against Azusa Pacific starter Rita Kim.
Biola was able to get a run in the sixth inning without a hit. Chelsea Limm drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a fielding error. Another APU error allowed Limm to come around and score. and a two-out hit-by-pitch loaded the bases. But an infield pop out ended the threat.
In the second game, the Cougars again scored four in the first inning, taking advantage of a Biola error to score three of those as unearned runs.
Unlike the first game, Biola was able to pound out eight hits, but just could not find a clutch one. In the first inning, Heather Hall led off with a double and moved to third on an infield single with one out. But back-to-back strikeouts ended the threat.
Azusa Pacific added a run in each the fifth and sixth innings on solo home runs to go up 6-0.
Biola got on the board in the bottom of the seventh as Chelsea Lim led off with a single followed by a single by Hall. After a fielder choice, an error extended the inning and loaded the bases with two out. Ashley Spadt was hit by a pitch to bring in a run, but a fly out ended the game at 6-1.
Enriquez went the distance in game two, allowing three earned runs on nine hits over seven innings.
Biola returns to action this weekend, traveling east to Tucson to take part in the Tucson Invitational, playing three games on Friday and three on Saturday.
