Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. ---
Christine Douglas recorded a match-high 13 kills to lead No. 4 Biola to a 25-20, 25-19, 25-14 win over Arizona Christian in a GSAC match on Friday night at Chase Gymnasium.
The Eagles improve to 24-3 on the season and to 10-1 in GSAC play while the Firestorm drop to 9-19 overall and to 1-10 in conference action.
Douglas paced the Biola offense with 13 kills and a solid .440 attack percentage while playing in just two sets. She also had two digs and a block.
The Eagles had a chance to play a number of players and different combinations with 14 Biola players seeing action. Britta Blaser, Nicolette Mather and Rachel Buckley each had six kills for the Eagles.
As was the case in Phoenix when the two teams met earlier in the year, Arizona Christian hung around with the Eagles longer than Biola felt comfortable with.
In the first set, BIola opened strong with a 5-1 lead. However, the Firestorm cut the lead to two with a short run and only trailed by one at 16-15 later in the set. However, Biola rattled off another short 5-1 run to take a 21-16 lead and held on for a 25-20 win.
Trailing 5-4 early in the second set, Biola rattled off a long 10-1 run to take a commanding 14-6 lead. But Arizona Christian went on a long run of its own, scoring 12 of the next 17 points to pull within one at 19-18. The Eagles stopped the run with back-to-back kills by Crissy Cunningham and Douglas to go up by three. After a block by the Firestorm, Biola got a hideout on a kill by Rachel Buckley and received two-straight aces from Justine Schoneveld to take back the set.
The Eagles didn't leave much doubt that they were ready to wrap things up in the third set, opening up the set with an 11-4 run and cruising to a 25-14 win.
Schoneveld had 23 assists, four digs, two aces and a block for Biola, moving her to within 51 assists of 2,000 for her career.
Biola returns to action on Saturday, traveling to Santa Barbara to take on No. 12 Westmont in a GSAC showdown at 7:00 p.m.
