Blaser Leads Biola Past Hope

Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Freshman Britta Blaser had a season-high 13 kills and senior Rachel Buckley recorded six blocks to give her 300 in her career to lead Biola to a 25-11, 25-13, 25-11 victory over Hope International University in a GSAC match on Thursday night at Chase Gymnasium.

The Eagles, ranked No. 4 in the NAIA Coaches Poll, improve to 23-2 with the win and move to 9-1 in conference play. The Royals fall to 3-17 and to 1-9 in the GSAC.

Blaser had the best night of her young collegiate career, recording 13 kills in 23 swings while committing just two errors for a .478 attack percentage. Meanwhile Rachel Buckley recorded six blocks for Biola, adding three kills and an ace. Her sixth block was the 300th of her career. Buckley ranks eighth all-time in that category at Biola.

Senior setter Justine Schoneveld recorded her first double-double of the season, recording 30 assists and 10 digs. She also reached a milestone by recording assists number 1,900 and ranks 10th in the Biola career record books.

The Ealges had a solid match all the way around and never trailed in the match. Biola posted a team attack percentage of .386 and recorded nine blocks.

Biola got off to a strong start in the match, breaking a 3-3 tie with a long 15-2 run to take command of the first set. During the run, Balser would record four of her team-best six kills in the first set, finishing the set a perfect 6-for-6.

In the second, the Eagles roared out to a 9-1 lead, but led by just five near the middle of the set at 15-10. Biola got a kill from Crissy Cunningham which started a 8-1 run as Biola pulled away. Buckley came up big during that run, with four blocks and a kill to account for five of those eight points.

The third set started off back and forth with Biola leading by three at 8-5. The Eagles rattled off an 14-2 run to pull away for the win.

Blaser was the only Biola player with more than five kills on the night. Sophomore Rachel Krueger had five kills in seven swings with no errors while Cunningham was a perfect three for three.

Biola returns to action with a huge battle coming up on Saturday as the Eagles welcome No. 1 and defending NAIA National Champions Texas-Brownsville to Chase Gymnasium for the third-straight year. Biola handed the Scorpions their first loss of the season when the teams met last year, winning in four. The match tips off at 1:00 p.m.
