Box Score SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. --- Biola tallied a pair of second half goals to pull away and defeat Arizona Christian University 3-1 in a GSAC match on Wednesday night at the Scottsdale Sports Complex.
The Eagles, who recently moved up to No. 24 in the NAIA National Poll, improve to 10-5-1 on the season and to 6-3-0 in GSAC play. The Firestorm drops to 3-12-1 and to 0-9-0 in its inaugural GSAC season.
Biola closed out its final road game of the season with a dominating showing, out-shooting Arizona Christian 20-7.
The Eagles got on the board first with a goal in the first half. In the 31st minute, Joey O'Keefe sent a cross from the left side and found Stephen Tanquary who one-touched it into the goal.
Biola would add another after halftime as Tony Montalvo took a free kick and sent it into the box where O'Keefe ran onto the ball and shot it in. The goal put BIola up 2-0 just over seven minutes into the half.
Arizona Christian got a goal back on a tally by Jesse Gerkey in the 77th minute and pushed forward a bit more to try and find the qualifier. However, Biola would get a big insurance goal late in the final minute as Montalvo tallied a goal with 47 seconds left to make it a 3-1 game.
Freshman goalkeeper Joshua Crichton made four saves to pick up the win in goal for Biola.
Biola snapped an unlucky scoreless stretch on the road with three goals on Wednesday night. The Eagles had not scored a goal on the road since one in the final few minutes of the match at Concordia on September 29.
The victory helped the Eagles keep pace with San Diego Christian College for the all-important second-place spot in the final conference standings and corresponding first-round bye and semifinal home game in the upcoming GSAC Tournament. Biola hosts The Master's College in its final match of the regular season on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. The Hawks travel to face Hope International on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
