Christine Douglas had 16 kills and
Rachel Buckley added 10 kills on 13 swings with no errors to pace No. 4 Biola to a 25-11, 25-9, 25-17 sweep at San Diego Christian College in a GSAC match on Tuesday night at the Ryan Athletic Center in El Cajon.
The Eagles pick up their 18th-straight win to improve to 19-1 on the season and are now 6-0 in GSAC play. The Hawks fall to 4-9 and to 2-4 in conference matches.
Douglas had a stellar match, recording her 16 kills in 29 swings with just one error for a season-best .517 attack percentage. She also added three blocks on the night.
Buckley made the most of her time on the court, wasting few swings in her two sets played by recording 10 kills in 13 total attacks for a career-best .769 attack percentage. She also recorded four blocks moving her into eighth on the all-time blocking list at Biola with 289 in her career.
The Eagles were nearly unstoppable on the night, posting a .449 team attack percentage while holidng the Hawks to .091.
Both teams played evenly to start the first set, with Biola holding a 10-7 lead a bit into the contest. But Biola woke up after that, benefitting from a service error to kick start a 15-4 run to close out the set with conviction.
The momentum carried over into the second set as the Eagles roared out of the gate with a 9-2 run and led 16-5 shortly thereafter. The Hawks cut into the lead a bit to make it 17-9, but Biola closed out the set with eight-straight points to cruise to the win. Buckley would record four of her kills over that stretch and added a block as well.
The third set was a bit closer but in score only as Biola opened with a lead and led by as many as three or four much of the time. The Eagles used a 7-2 run through the middle portion of the set to pull away and cruised to the win.
Junior setter
Gracee Gallarda played the first two sets and recorded 24 assists in the match to push her over the 2,000 assist mark in her career with 2,022. Just behind her on the all-time list is senior
Justine Schoneveld, who played the final set and finished with 11 assists, giving her 1,880 all-time.
Biola closes out the first half of the GSAC schedule with a huge showdown on Saturday, hosting No. 2 Concordia University at 7:00 p.m. Concordia is a perfect 18-0 on the season--its best start ever--and is 5-0 in conference play, hosting No. 13 The Master's on Thursday.
