RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Biola's season came to an end on Tuesday as the Eagles were knocked off 6-1 in the first-round play-in game of the 2011 Golden State Athletic Conference tournament at John Funk Stadium in Riverside.

The Eagles' season comes to an end with a record of 27-26. The Lions (26-30) advance to a best-of-three series with No. 1 seed California Baptist in the GSAC Tournament semifinals.

CeCe Luster pitched a solid game, allowing just five hits over 5-2/3 innings, but gave up three runs, though none were earned. She added four strikeouts and no walks.

Errors once again proved to be the nemesis for Biola which really beat itself in this contest. The Eagles committed six errors in the game leading to just two of the six runs being earned. Biola ended up committing 16 errors in the last three games of the season.

After a solid first four innings by both pitchers, Vanguard broke through with the first run after a Biola error extended the inning. After the infield error, Adriana Venezia hit a two-run shot to center field to make it a 2-0 game.

Biola got one of those runs back in the top of the fifth as Leslie Larson hit a leadoff home run to center to make it 2-1.

But the Lions scored again in the top of the sixth, taking advantage of a pair of errors to make it a 3-1 game. They would break the game open in the seventh with three runs, scoring two on a bases-loaded single by Kaysie Flasck.

Biola managed just three hits against Vanguard starter Stacie Salazar, who added a pair of strikeouts in the game.

Jillian Storm, who had one of those three hits, recorded her NAIA-leading 57th stolen base of the season and will graduate as Biola's single season and career record holder in steals.
