Eagles Cruise to Sweep of Doane College

Kristin Larson

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- BIola's pitching and hitting both were on display on Monday afternoon as the Eagles swept a non-conference doubleheader from Doane College (Neb.) by scores of 5-1 and 7-1 at Freedom Field.

The Eagles improve to 18-10 on the season with their eighth win in their last 10 games. The Tigers fall to 1-5.

CeCe Luster provided the bulk of the offense in the first game while Lyndsie Roberts took care of business in the circle. In the first game, Luster drove in the first run with a single in the top of the first, the third-straight single to open the game. Roberts then helped out her own cause with a sacrifice fly to plate the second run.

Doane scored its loan run of the game in the second inning. With runners at second and third and two outs, Jennifer Lidel singled home the first run, but Jillian Storm kept the Eagles on top by throwing out the second runner at the plate to end the inning.

The score remained the same until the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Luster hit her fifth home run of the season, a bomb to center field. The Eagles would add another run in the inning on an error, and Luster drove home another run in the sixth inning with a single to plate Chelsea Limm.

Roberts went the distance for Biola, picking up the win to improve to 4-2 on the season. She allowed just one run on six hits and struck out three.

In the second game, Kristin Larson was the pitching star while Roberts helped prvide the offense.

Biola got an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning driven in with a sacrifice fly by Luster. The Eagles added another run in the third as Roberts belted her team-best seventh home run of the season.

After Doane closed the gap with a run in the fifth, Biola answered back with two in the bottom of the inning, the first on an error and the second on a double by Leslie Larson.

Biola then broke the game open in the sixth with three runs. Roberts capped her strong game with a sacrifice fly to drive home the first run followed by a run scoring on an error and another coming home on a groundout.

Larson allowed one run on five hits while striking out three to pick up the win to improve to 2-3 on the season.

Biola returns to acton on Wednesday with a big non-conference doubleheader against No. 13 Dickinson State (N.D.). The doubleheader begins at 2:00 p.m.
