LA MIRADA, Calif. ---
Lyndsie Roberts paced Biola's offensive attack, hitting two home runs and driiving in five runs on the day as the Eagles pounded La Sierra University 12-0 and 8-5 in a non-conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon.
Biola improves to 9-5 on the season with its fourth-straight win while the Golden Eagles fall to 0-10 on the year.
The Eagles pounded out 25 hits and scored 20 runs in the two games, the most since a doubleheader sweep of Concordia (Ill.) last season.
In the first game, Biola opened the scoring with five runs in the bottom of the second inning. Two of those runs came on a double by
Jillian Storm, picking up one of her six hits on the day.
CeCe Luster followed with an RBI single and two other runs scored on errors.
In the fourth, the Eagles would erupt for seven runs to cap the scoring, recording five doubles in the inning. After a single by
Lauren Gandy drove home the first run with a single, Luster and Roberts followed with run scoring doubles, both missing the outfield fence by mere feet.
A double by
Sam Roberts drove in another run with
Leslie Larson capping the scoring with a two-run double.
Lyndsie Roberts pitched a solid four innings to pick up the victory in the five-run game, allowing just one hit and striking out three.
Shaylynn Weststeyn threw the final inning, striking out the side.
In the second game, the offense belonged mostly to Roberts, who belted two home runs in her first two at bats of the game. In the first, the senior opened the scoring with a two-run shot to right field. Biola would end up loaded the bases with two out, but could get no more runs across.
In the second inning, the Eagles added another run on a wild pitch followed by an RBI-single by Luster. Roberts then followed with her second home run of the game, hitting a bomb to right-center to make it 6-0.
Biola would add one more run in the fourth on an RBI-single by
Celina Thornton and seemed ready for another eight-run mercy-rule victory.
However, the Golden Eagles came back with one run in the fifth, three in the sixth and one in the seventh to make things interesting late.
Storm led the way with six hits in eight at-bats, also recording two stolen bases and scoring four runs.
Lyndsie Roberts was 3-for-5 with two home runs, a double, five RBIs and four runs scored.
Biola returns to action next Friday (March 4), hosting the University of St. Thomas (Fla.) in a non-conference doubleheader at Freedom Field. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
