REDDING, Calif. --- Biola scored two runs in the fifth to pull out a 5-3 victory over Oregon Tech, but lost its two other games including one in extra innings on the final day of the Simpson University Tournament in Redding.
The Eagles wrap up the day with an overall mark of 5-5, going 3-3 at the tournament.
In the first game of the day, Biola dropped an 8-6 decision to Northwest Christian University as three Eagle errors led to five unearned runs. In Biola's final game of the tournament, the University of British Columbia scored two runs in the seventh to tie the game and won it in the eighth, 7-6.
Biola scored 17 runs on 24 hits in the three games, but still walked away with just one win on the day. Against Northwest Christian, Biola jumped out to a 3-0 inning with after a three-run third. However, the Beacons tied the score with a three-run homer in the top of the fourth. Northwest Christian added three more runs in the inning to go up 6-3.
Biola closed the gap with a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth but the Beacons continued to pull away.
In the second game of the day, the Eagles scored two runs in the second inning thanks to a two-run single by
Natalie Parker, then added another run in the third on a single by
CeCe Luster.
Oregon Tech tied the game at 3-3 with three runs in the top of the fifth. But the Eagles came right back with two in the bottom of the frame, taking advantage of an error by OIT for one run and a double by
Lyndsie Roberts for the other.
In the final game of the day, Biola jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead just two innings into the contest. University of British Columbia came back with two runs in the top of the third, but still trailed 6-4 heading into the top of the seventh. But after a two-run double tied the game, the Thunderbirds scored one in the top of the eighth to win the game.
The Eagles return home for a doubleheader against Simpson University at Freedom Field on Tuesday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
