Biola Plays to Senior Night Sweep Over San Diego Christian

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola sent off its three seniors in style on Saturday night, cruising to a 25-15, 25-19, 25-12 win over San Diego Christian in a GSAC match at Chase Gymnasium.

The Eagles improve to 21-12 on the season and move back to .500 in GSAC play at 8-8. The Hawks drop to 7-25 overall and to 1-15 in the conference.

Senior Sarah McAtee had a match-high 12 kills and added two blocks in her final regular-season home match as an Eagle while fellow seniors Joy Talcott and Christian Woodruff combined for six aces and 10 digs.

Biola got off to a slow start in the first set as San Diego Christian played well defensively to start. However, the Eagles broke a 13-13 tie by closing out the set on a 12-2 run including scoring the final six points to take the match easily.

In the second set, Biola again struggled to pull away early, but eventually broke a 10-10 tie with an 8-3 run to take a 18-13 lead. San Diego Christian closed the gap to two with a quick three-point run, bu Biola responded with a 6-3 run to close out the set.

The third set completely belonged to the Eagles with Biola jumping out to a 10-3 lead and cruising from there.

Overall, Biola posted a .261 attack percentage while holding the Hawks to a .045 mark.

Freshman Amy Weststeyn had another banner match, recording 10 kills and improving on her GSAC-best blocking numbers with six blocks.

The Eagles return to action on Tuesday with a trip north to Fresno, taking on Fresno Pacific in a big GSAC match for both teams. First serve is slated for 7:00 p.m.
