Biola Puts Up Strong Showing in Exhibition Loss at Cal State Fullerton

Chelsea Hill scores team-high 16 and added nine boards

Adijat Adams had a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds

FULLERTON, Calif. --- Adijat Adams scored 10 points and added 14 rebounds and Chelsea Hill added 16 points and nine boards to lead Biola, but it wasn't enough to pull off the upset as the Eagles lost 59-50 in an exhibition game at NCAA Division I Cal State Fullerton on Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles put their poor shooting behind them, hitting 34 percent from the field and once again out-rebounding their opponent, holding a 44-39 edge on the glass.

Biola played well in the first half and led by as many as eight points midway through the period. The Titan offense started to come around as the home team used a 13-5 run to tie the game four minutes later. Cal State Fullerton would use an eight-point run a few minutes later to take a 10-point lead with under a minute before the half. However, Biola cut the lead to six on back-to-back baskets by Emily Drews and Hill to make it a 31-25 game at the half.

The Eagles played strong defense to start the second half and held the Titans to just two free throws over the first 8:29. Biola had no trouble scoring and used an 11-2 run to regain teh lead, holding a 36-33 lead with 12 minutes to go. A few minutes later, the Eagles had stretched that lead to five only to see Fullerton come alive. The Titans went on a 13-2 run over the next six minutes and managed to hold on late for the win.

Biola dominated in the paint for the second-straight game, outscoring the Titans 26-12 inside. The Eagles also pulled down 21 offensive rebounds which led to 16 second-chance points.

Biola now will prepare to start its season up in Oakland for the Holy Names Tip-Off Classic on Friday and Saturday. The Eagles face Menlo College at 5:30 p.m. on Friday before facing Holy Names on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
