Christine Douglas

FULLERTON, Calif. --- Christine Douglas had 10 kills and added four blocks to pace No. 14 Biola to a 25-21, 25-10, 25-17 GSAC victory over Hope International University at Darling Pavilion on Tuesday night.

The Eagles snap a two-match losing streak and improve to 18-9 on the season and move to 6-5 in GSAC play. The Royals drop to 5-18 overall and to 1-10 in conference action.

Douglas was the lone player in double-figures in kills in the match with 10 and posted a .348 attack percentage. Sophomore right-side hitter Chelsea Arnitz recorded six kills and added eight blocks including two solo.

The Eagles had a tough time pulling away from Hope in the first set of the match which featured two lead changes and seven ties. The last of those ties came with the score knotted at 18-18. But Biola used a quick four-point run with two of those coming from Arnitz and went up 22-18. The Eagles would then exchange points through the rest of set to win 25-21.

The second set was all Biola. The Eagles opened up a quick 6-2 lead and never looked back, closing out the set 14-3 run to win 25-10.

In the final set, Hope opened up an early lead and held a 10-8 advantage before the Eagles rallied and tied the score at 12-12. The Eagles then went on an 8-1 run to break the match open and cruised to the win.

Biola broke from its standard 6-2 offense for the match to run a 5-1 with sophomore Gracee Gallarda sa the setter. Gallarda recorded 30 assists and added two kills, eight digs and an ace.

The Eagles begin a tough stretch this weekend, taking on No. 2 Concordia University Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Biola then hosts No. 7 Azusa Pacific University on Tuesday and No. 1 Texas-Brownsville on Thursday. Both matches are at 7:00 p.m.
