Tavea Hampton had a team-high 11 kills and senior
Abbie Wright posted 26 assists and a season-high five aces as Biola cruised to a 25-11, 25-14, 25-10 sweep over San Diego Christian College in a GSAC match on Tuesday night.
The Eagles pick up their third-straight victory and move to 25-7 overall. They also move back into sole possession of second place in the GSAC with a 16-3 record after a loss by California Baptist. The Hawks fall to 9-19 and to 2-17 in conference play.
Overall, the Eagles hit a season-best .443 which included a season-best set attack percentage of .682 in the second set (17-2-22).
Hampton paced the Biola offense with a .529 attack percentage, recording her 11 kills in just 17 swings with two errors. She also added four blocks and a dig and closed out the final two sets with nine kills in her last 10 attacks.
Wright also did well in her final home match at Chase Gymnasium, recording five aces--a team-best in a three-game match--and had 26 assists. Her five aces adds to her school career record, giving her 180 in her four seasons at Biola.
Fellow seniors
Amy Mosebar and
Lindsay Dietzen also played strong matches. Mosebar had six kills in 11 attacks (.455 attack percentage), adding two digs, two assists and a block. Dietzen played excellent defense, recording 14 digs and adding a service ace.
Biola got off to a quick start in the first set, jumping out to an 8-1 lead thanks in large part to strong serving by Dietzen. The Eagles would pull away in a hurry, stretching the lead to 17-7 and closing the set with five-straight points to win 25-11.
In the second set, Biola dominated, leading by as many as 13 at 21-8. The Eagles had set point at 24-9 before a short SDCC run of five points made it a bit closer with the final tally being 25-14.
The third set proved to be more of the same with Wright serving the first seven-straight points for the Eagles including three of her aces. Biola extended the lead to 13-2. The Hawks narrowed the lead a bit to 14-6 before the Eagles closed out the match with an 11-4 run.
Biola closes out the regular season on Saturday (Nov. 13), traveling to face Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego at 3:00 p.m.
