Biola Suffers Yet Another 1-0 Loss, This Time at Azusa Pacific

AZUSA, Calif. --- For the sixth time this season, Biola suffered a 1-0 loss, falling this time to arch-rival and No. 12-ranked Azusa Pacific University in a GSAC contest on Saturday afternoon at the Cougar Soccer Field.

The loss drops the Eagles to 4-6-1 on the year and to 2-2-0 in GSAC play while the Cougars improve to 11-2 and 4-1 in conference action.

Azusa Pacific netted the match's lone goal in the 33rd minute as Nathan Neinhuis mis-kicked a ball but got enough of it to slide it through the Biola keeper and into the back of the net. The counter-attack goal came off what looked like it could be a chance for the Eagles. However it was cleared out of danger and the Cougars took advantage of the absense of a pair of defenders who had jumped into the attack.

After hafltime, Biola made a few changes and put together at least three legitimate scoring chances. In the 59th minute, senior Kennedy Chongo got behind the defense and had a breakaway chance. He would end up beating the keeper with a quick strike, but wound up missing the goal.

Later in the period, senior Phillip Friehe also had a breakaway but dribbled right in the oncoming goalkeeper who snuffed out the attack.

"I thought we had a number of great chances, especially in the second half," said Head Coach Bryan Kuderman. "We definitely had our chances to tie or even take the lead, but couldn't finish."

Azusa Pacific netminder Joe Geletko picked up the victory, recording five saves. Fenlason also made five saves while facing 16 shots.

Biola had won the last two matches against the Cougars, defeating them twice in the 2009 season by 1-0 scores. In fact, the last four matches between the two have ended in 1-0 scores.

Biola returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to face Hope International University in a GSAC contest played at Cal State Fullerton beginning at 3:00 p.m.
