LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Moments after scoring a dramatic game-tying goal with 18 seconds left in regulation, Biola surrendered a goal six minutes into overtime as Point Loma Nazarene knocked off the Eagles 2-1 in a GSAC match on Saturday night.
The Eagles fall to 6-8-1 on the season and to 4-4-0 in GSAC play while the Sea Lions move to 6-9-0 and to 3-6-0 in conference action.
Point Loma took an early lead with a goal in the 34th minute on a long shot by Erick Melendez. The Sea Lions held strong for much of the rest of the game as Biola started firing away. With 25 seconds to play, Biola goalkeeper
Aaron Fenlason came forward on a final rush and sent it a ball into the box where
Phillip Friehe deflected it to
Graham Foster, who headed it in for the tying goal with 18 seconds left.
In the overtime session, Biola had a great look at the goal but a questionable offside call blew the play dead. Just one minute later, Point Loma Nazarene got a free kick from 35 yards out and turned it into the match-winner as Grant Cowles gathered the loose ball and scored from close range.
Biola begins the final week of the regular season with a tough road contest on Wednesday at GSAC-leading Vanguard University beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Eagles close out the regular season at home on Saturday (Oct. 30), hosting The Master's College at 7:00 p.m.
