COSTA MESA, Calif. --- Biola committed an uncharacteristic eight errors which led to 10 unearned runs as Vanguard swept a GSAC doubleheader from the Eagles by scores of 4-0 and 9-2 on Tuesday afternoon in Costa Mesa.

Biola sees its four-game winning streak snapped and falls to 19-18 overall and 9-13 in GSAC play. The Lions improve to 27-22 and 8-14 in conference.

Vanguard struck first with three unearned runs in the bottom of the second to jump out to a quick lead in game one. With two out and runners on first and second, an error allowed the first run to score and extended the inning. The Lions took full advantage after that as Amanda Omahen drove in two runs with a single to make it 3-0.

Vanguard would add one more run in the third as another fielding error by the Eagles with two out led to another tally for the home team.

Patricia Olvera picked up the win for the Lions to improve to 14-11 on the season. She allowed just four hits and added three strikeouts in the complete-game shutout.

Erica Moyer took the tough loss, allowing just two hits, but giving up three unearned runs to fall to 5-6 on the season.

In game two, Biola struck first with a run in the top of the first. Sophomore Sara Smith got things rolling with a single to right-center field. That was followed by a single up the middle by Lyndsie Roberts. The ball was misplayed by the center fielder which allowed Smith to come all the way around and score.

Vanguard came right back with three runs in the bottom of the inning, again taking advantage of a Biola miscue to score three runs and send nine batters to the plate.

In the second, the Lions tacked on one more as Kasey Klarenbach opened the inning by reaching on an error, then came around to score on a single by Sarah Howe.

Biola closed the gap to two with a run in the top of the third. Roberts drew a walk to start things out. Two outs later, with Roberts at second, Kristin Larson drove a single up the middle which scored Roberts and made it 4-2.

After the teams exchanged zeroes for the next six half innings, Vanguard blew the game open with a five-run sixth. Howe drove in the first two runs with a single up the middle. That was followed by a two-run double by Stephanie Leisenring.

Melissa Forrester earned the win for the Lions, improving to 7-3 on the season. She allowed two runs--one earned--on six hits over seven innings for the win.

Larson suffered the loss, allowing just three earned runs on seven hits over six innings and falls to 4-6.

Biola closes out the regular season on Saturday (Apr. 25), hosting Concordia University in a GSAC doubleheader beginning at Noon at Freedom Field.
