LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola took off 11 days for Spring Break, but picked up right where it had left off, sweeping another NAIA Top 25 team, this time defeating No. 24 Azusa Pacific by scores of 2-0 and 9-3 in a GSAC doubleheader on Saturday at Freedom Field.

The Eagles end the day with a record of 19-16 overall and 9-11 in conference play, running their win streak to four-straight games and having won six of their last eight games. The Cougars continue their tailspin, dropping their third-striaght game and seventh in their last eight. They fall to 22-20 overall and past Biola into fifth place in the GSAC at 8-12.

The first game featured outstanding pitching from both sides though it was the Eagles duo of Kristin Larson and Lyndsie Roberts who would prevail in the end. Larson was impressive, allowing just one hit over four innings to earn the victory. After she was finished, Roberts mopped up the game, scattering just one hit himself and striking out five over the final three innings to earn her first save of the year.

Biola's offense did not need much to win the game but managed to push two runs across against Azusa Pacific's No. 1 starter, Camille Hundley. The Eagles struck with their first run in the third inning with a two-out rally. Jillian Storm and Sara Smith started the rally with back-to-back singles. Keena Levert followed with an RBI-single to plate Storm with the first run.

In the fourth, Biola followed up with an insurance run, taking advantage of a pair of two-out errors by the Cougars and a bases-loaded walk to Smith to make it 2-0.

In the second game, it was the Cougars who struck first, finally managing to get to Roberts with a pair of runs in the top of the first. Bekah Weisser drove home a pair with a two-out double as APU took the early lead.

But Biola got one of those runs back in the bottom of the second. Krista Johnson reached on an error to start the inning, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, reached third on an infield single by Levert and scored on a wild pitch.

Johnson would help give the Eagles their first lead of the second game two innings later, blasting a two-run shot to dead centerfield to put Biola up 3-2. She drove home Roberts, who had led off the inning with a double.

The Cougars would eventually tie the game in the sixth, taking advantage of a Biola error to knot the score at 3-3. But Biola would answer right back in the bottom of the inning with six runs to blow the game wide open.

Johnson started the rally with a walk followed by a single by Erica Moyer to put runners at the corners with one out. Levert then gave the Eagles the lead back with a run on a perfectly-executed squeeze play as Johnson score to make it 4-3 Biola.

After an Azusa Pacific error loaded the bases, Morgan Facchini sluggled a two-run single up the middle. That was followed by a single to left by Brittany Bury. One batter later, Smith capped the scoring with a two-run single up the middle. When the dust settled, the Eagles held a commanding 9-3 lead heading into the top of the seventh.

Azusa Pacific mounted one final attempt to salvage the game in the top of the seventh off Moyer, who had entered to pitch in the top of the fifth. After a single and a hit batter put runners at first and second with one out, Weisser stroked a single to left field. However, Kacie Lyding came up firing from right for the Eagles and gunned Jessica Halma at the plate. Moyer would then end the game by getting an easy groundout to third.

Moyer allowed just one unearned run on four hits over the final three innings of the game to pick up the win and move to 5-5 on the season.

Biola returns to action on Tuesday (Apr. 21), traveling to Costa Mesa for a GSAC doubleheader against Vanguard University. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
