GAME TWO BOX SCORE

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Sophomore pitchers Lyndsie Roberts and Erica Moyer allowed just nine hits and one run as Biola swept a non-conference doubleheader against Holy Names University by scores of 5-1 and 2-0 at Freedom Field on Friday afternoon.

The Eagles improve to 3-0 on the young season while dropping the Hawks to 0-4.

In her first start of the season, Moyer scattered four hits and allowed one unearned run in the first game of the doubleheader. That was followed by Roberts, who pitched a shutout and allowed just five hits for her second win of the season.

In the first game, Biola struck first with three runs in the second inning, taking advantage of a pair of errors on Holy Names. The Eagles would add two more runs in the fourth thanks to a wild pitch and an RBI-single by Jillian Storm.

Moyer had little trouble in the circle, allowing baserunners in just four of the seven innings. The only big hit came in the third when Ebony Thorpe tripled to right with two outs. Thorpe would come around to score as Rachael Martinez reached on an error by the Eagles.

Biola had at least two runners on in each inning against the Hawks in the second game, but were unable to push across more than two runs in the game. The first came in the third inning as Storm and Roberts hit back-to-back singles to lead things off. Two infield outs later, Moyer drove in Storm with an RBI-single to leftfield to make it a 1-0 game.

In the fifth, Krista Johnson started things off with a double to left which was followed by a single to right by Moyer putting runners at the corners with no outs. Kristen Larson then singled to left to score Johnson and the Eagles were up 2-0.

Meanwhile Roberts was cruising. In the forth, Thorpe led off with a single and stole second. She then reached third on a Biola error which allowed Martinez to reach base. Roberts was in her only jam of the afternoon as a wild pitch moved Martinez up to second with no one out. But the sophomore ended the threat with an infield pop out and a pair of strikeouts. Roberts, who has not allowed an earned run in 14 innings so far this season, struck out seven on the afternoon.

Moyer not only had a great day in the circle, but also went 3-for-5 from the plate. Junior Brittany Bury also did well at the plate, going 4-for-8 including three hits in the first game of the twinbill. Storm had three hits in seven at-bats and also drew a walk.

The Eagles open GSAC play on Tuesday (Feb. 24) with a big matchup against No. 2 Point Loma Nazarene at Freedom Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
