BOX SCORE
FULLERTON, Calif. --- A week after putting on a defensive clinic, Biola showed off its offensive prowess, scoring a season-high 94 points en route to a 94-63 victory over Pacific Union College (Calif.) in a non-conference game played at Hope International University on Thursday night.
The Eagles improve to 10-0 on the season, marking just the sixth time in the programs history they have started with at least 10-straight victories. The Pioneers drop to 1-6 on the year on the heels of their sixth-straight loss.
Biola shot an impressive 52.6 percent in the game including 61.5 percent in the second half to score the most points in a game since a 95-89 win over Pomona-Pitzer in December of 2006. This performance comes just five days after the Eagles held Pomona-Pitzer to just 38 points, the lowest total in nearly two years.
Senior guard
Danny Campbell posted a season-best 24 points to lead the offensive explosion, connecting on 5-of-9 from beyond the three-point line. Junior forward
Andrew Schroeder, starting in the place of an injured
Josh Miller, scored a career-high 21 points on 6-of-8 shooting, adding nine points on 9-of-11 shooting from the free throw line.
Biola got off to a slow start in the game, hitting just three of its first 10 shots and committing two of its season-low eight turnovers over the course of the first six minutes. As a result the Eagles trailed 11-9 early on before a jumper by Schroeder tied the score at 11-11 at the 12:57 mark. Biola still led by just five at 24-19 with just under seven minutes left in the half before things started to pick up. Campbell hit a three-pointer to start a 9-2 run as the Eagles stretched the lead to 11 early on. They would take a nine-point lead to the half after Pacific Union connected on a last-second shot which made it 39-30.
Biola did not repeat its slow start in the second half, instead hitting seven of their first 11 shots and scoring points on 12 of their first 14 possessions. The Eagles used the hot start to go on a 23-5 run over the first seven minutes to extend the lead to 62-35. Biola didn't let up from there, extending the lead to as many as 36 points before settling on the 94-63 victory.
Junior guard
Nate Rakestraw scored 13 points and added six steals and five rebounds. Senior forward
Rocky Hampton added 11 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday (Dec. 19), hosting Bethany University (Calif.) in their final non-conference game before Christmas Break. The game tips-off at 7:30 p.m. at Chase Gymnasium.
