Biola Rebounds with 2-1 Win at UC Santa Cruz

Kahlie Reinecke had a goal and an assist to lead Biola

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. --- Junior Kahlie Reinecke scored the match-winning goaland also recorded an assist on the first goal to lead Biola to a 2-1 win over the UC Santa Cruz in a non-conference match on Monday afternoon.

The Eagles rebound from a tough loss in their GSAC opener on Saturday and improve to 4-2-0 on the season. The Banana Slugs fall to 5-3-1 on the season with the loss.

Biola is in the midst of a busy stretch, playing four matches in eight days with this being one of its longest trips of the season. However, the Eagles managed to pick up a victory over a tough NCAA Division III opponent.

UC Santa Cruz was able to get on the board first as Annick Lamb scored on a corner kick from Karli Cowman in the 12th minute of the contest.

Biola responded just 18 minutes later as Reinecke sent a perfect pass to sophomore Caitlin Peterson, who was able to score and tie the match at the 30 minute mark.

In the second half, Reinecke put the Eagles back on top with an unassisted goal just two minutes into the half.

From there, the Biola defense took over, allowing just four shots by the Banana Slugs in the final 45 minutes.

Biola returns to action on Wednesday (Oct. 1), traveling to Costa Mesa to face GSAC foe Vanguard University at 7:00 p.m.
