IRVINE, Calif. --- Biola continued its perfect start to the season with two sweeps over NAIA Top-15 teams, defeating No. 11 Georgetown College (Ky.) 25-21, 25-19, 25-21 and No. 12 Southern Oregon 25-13, 25-8, 25-14 to close out the Concordia University Labor Day Festival on Saturday.

The Eagles, ranked No. 4 in the latest NAIA National Poll, improve to 8-0 on the season with the wins. It is the second-straight season Biola has started the season 8-0 after the Eagles won their first 12-straight in 2007 en route to a trip to the NAIA National Semifinals.

Biola was led by senior outside hitter Jessica Buffum, who recorded 19 kills and posted a .471 hitting percentage in the team's two matches. She also added 19 digs and two aces.

The Eagles also received a great showing from their middle blockers. Senior Kristen Peterson continued her strong start with 17 kills and eight blocks in the two matches. Junior Kelsey Christoferson added 10 kills, four blocks and posted a .600 hitting percentage while junior Meghan Cunningham recorded eight blocks--five solo--and had a pair of kills.

In the first match of the day, Biola jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead and held a 19-13 edge later in the first set. The Eagles continued to cruise and prepared to serve for the set up 24-16. However, Georgetown rallied for five-straight points to close the out the first set.

Biola used an 11-3 run to go up 13-8 midway through the second set, building the lead up to eight at 19-11 before settling for the 25-19 win. In the third set, the Eagles again jumped out to a big lead and held a 21-13 advantage late in the set before Georgetown rallied to make the score a bit more respectable.

Biola had little trouble in the second match of the day, posting a .470 attack percentage and cruising to a quick sweep in just 50 minutes. The Eagles trailed just three times in the entire match and also recorded 12 blocks. Five of those blocks came from Cunningham, who recorded four solo blocks and added a pair of kills. Peterson also played well in the match with six blocks and as many kills

Biola returns to action on Tuesday (Sept. 2), traveling to Carson, Calif. to face Cal State Dominguez Hills in a non-conference match set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
