BOX SCORE

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Junior outside hitter Meghan Warkentin had 17 kills to lead No. 4 Biola University to a 30-14, 30-19, 30-17 win over Bryan College (Tenn.) in a non-conference match on Monday night at Chase Gymnasium in La Mirada.

The Eagles improve to 18-3 on the season with the win while the Lions, who hail from Dayton, Tenn. and belongs to the NAIA's Region XII, fell to 16-7 overall.

Warkentin, who had been struggling since a leg injury early in September, broke out in tonight's match, recording 17 kills and just two errors in 27 swings for a .556 attack percentage.

Joining her on the attack was junior Kelsey Mitchell, who added 11 kills and hit .391 for the night.

Bryan College held its own through the beginning of the first game using a short run to tie the score at 11-11. However, Biola picked up the pace and closed out the game with a 19-3 run keyed by a long service run by senior defensive specialist Dani Aigaki.

The Eagles took a quick lead to start game two but allowed Bryan back into the match with a number of errors. After the Lions pulled to within three at 16-13, Biola used a 9-3 run to pull away.

Game three went back and forth though the Eagles never trailed in the game. Leading 18-15, the Eagles finally put Bryan away with a 12-2 run. Freshman Lindsay Dietzen served out the match with six straight points and adding the first kill and first two aces of her collegiate career.

Gabby Claxton led the way for the Lions, recording six kills while Alison Young had four kills and 14 digs on the night.

Junior setter Christina Perkins had 32 assists for Biola and added nine digs.

Biola returns to action on Tuesday (Oct. 16) with a home match against GSAC foe San Diego Christian College at 7:00 p.m. in Chase Gymnasium.
