No. 2 Fresno Pacific Too Much for Eagles

FRESNO, Calif. --- When the new NAIA polls are released on Wednesday afternoon, Fresno Pacific is expected to move into the top spot. On Tuesday night, Biola's volleyball team experienced firsthand just how good the Sunbirds are, falling 30-17, 30-16, 30-25 in Fresno.

Fresno Pacific, ranked No. 2 in the latest NAIA poll, improved its record to 9-0 on the season while the Eagles fell to 6-3. It was the Golden State Athletic Conference opener for Biola, which drops to 0-1, while FPU improves to 2-0.

The Eagles were led by the 13 kills of sophomore Meghan Scheenstra and 17 kills from freshman Katie Stevens.

Fresno outhit Biola by a .368 to .146 margins and had two players in double-figures in kills as Fabiana Leomil recorded 16 and Thais Julio had 12.

The Sunbirds are likely to move up to the top spot in the NAIA rankings on Wednesday as No. 1 Cal Baptist suffered a lost last week. Biola, which entered the week as the top team in the receiving votes category, also hopes to crack the top 25 Wednesday after a win on Friday over No. 7 Houston Baptist.

The Eagles look to get back on the winning track with an afternoon match on Saturday (Sept. 9) when they host The Master's College at 2:00 p.m.
