Votes Are In: Scheenstra Helps Eagles Win in Landslide

Meghan Scheenstra is now Biola's single season kill leader
FULLERTON, Calif. --- While Tuesday's national election brought major changes in the political arena, things mostly stayed the same for the red-hot Biola volleyball team, which ran its winning-streak to eight with a 27-30, 30-20, 30-15, 30-21 victory at Hope.

Sophomore Meghan Scheenstra continued her reign on the Biola record books, recording 32 kills while hitting at a .424 clip. Scheenstra has now hit the 30-kill plateau four times this season.

With her performance, Scheenstra now has 590 kills this season in just 99 games, shattering the existing Biola season record of 579 set by Hannah Timboe in the 2003 season. That year, Timboe needed 136 games to reach the 579 kill mark.

Hope shocked the Eagles in the first game, leading to early thoughts of Dewey defeating Truman. However, Biola came back with three dominating games to prove the early editions wrong.

The Eagles and Royals battled throughout the first game but it looked as though Biola would pull it out after taking a 26-24 lead. But Hope got right back into the match with back-to-back aces by Melissa Sherman and held on to win 30-27.

In game two, Biola started out slow again, but a 13-5 run aided by five kills by Scheenstra broke open a 12-12 tie.

Game three was more of the same as the Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never turned back. It was one of the best overall games for Biola on the season as the team hit .667 in the game, recording 22 kills in 30 attempts while committing just two errors.

The Eagles closed out the match with another strong performance, jumping out to another 7-0 start and crusing to an easy win.

Freshman libero Katie Stevens played well on defense, recording a match-high 26 digs and three assists. Fellow freshman setter Abbie Wright had 56 assists, seven kills and six digs.

Jillian Lane led Hope with 18 kills and 11 digs.

Biola closes out the regular season with a key matchup against No. 3 Concordia on Saturday (Nov. 11) at 7:00 p.m.
