Through the Years
In
2023-24, Carr guided her team to win the PacWest Championships and advance to the NCAA West Regional for the second time in program history. The Eagles won the conference championships with a three-round score of 923 at the Mauna Lani North Course in Waikoloa, Hawaii. Biola earned the PacWest's automatic qualifier to West Regionals where they scored their lowest single-round team score of the season, two-above-par 290, in the opening round. The Eagles were competitive with some of the best teams in the West Region and ended the tournament 10th of 12 teams with a three-round score of 903. Carr had two PacWest Golfers of the Week and her 2024 squad had the highest Clippd team ranking in the league (#47).
The Eagles garnered several awards for their successful 2024. Carr was the PacWest's Coach of the Year and Brady Turnquist was the Player of the Year. BU also led the conference with four All-PacWest selections. Turnquist was First Team All-PacWest, Rachel Shaw was Second Team All-PacWest and Theresa Shaw and Melanie Reyes were Third Team All-PacWest selections. Turnquist was a program-changing player whose name is all over the record books. She also won the Dave Holmquist Career Acheivement Award at the 2024 Gala to cap an amazing career at Biola.
In
2022-23, the Eagles finished the PacWest Championships third of seven teams with a combined team score of 960. Turnquist led Biola, tying for second place at the conference championships and would advance to the NCAA DII West Regional as a individual. Turnquist finished the West Regional 23rd of 65 individuals with a three-round score of 220.
Three Eagles represented Biola on the all-conference teams. Turnquist and Madison Voisard were named First Team All-PacWest and Rachel Shaw was a Second Team All-PacWest pick.
2021-22 was a special year for Carr and the women's golf team. Under Carr's leadership the Eagle's reached new heights, making school history multiple times. Their first historic moment came when the Eagles' won the program's first-ever PacWest Conference Championship title in Litchfield, Ariz. Biola went back-and-forth with Dominican in the conference championship until they distanced themselves in the final two holes. Sami Penor would end up making par on the final hole, which proved to be enough to lock in the Eagles' first-ever PacWest Conference Championship as they carded a three-day total of 928 (+64) to win by three strokes over the Penguins. The Eagles went on to advance to their first-ever NCAA Division II postseason where they came in ninth of 12 teams. Lastly, Carr's group crushed another school record when they shot a single-round program-best, an even-par round of 288, at the West Regionals.
BU finished amongst the top five in all but two tournaments and received four medalists honors in the 2021-22 season. Penor had one medalist accomplishment and Brady Turnquist contributed three in an incredible year. Turnquist shined for the Eagles with a team-high of five top five tournament finishes.Â
And for a year to remember, Biola reaped the benefits. Carr was named the 2021-22 PacWest Coach of the Year and had five All-PacWest players including the PacWest's Freshman of the Year. The accolades continued to roll in for the Eagles as Mary Grace Davidson, Penor, and Rachel Shaw were named Scholar All-Americans by the WGCA. Penor was also named a NCAA Women of the Year candidate.Â
The Eagles'
2019-20 season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it was shaping up to be another excellent campaign for Carr and her squad. Through the first six tournaments of the season, the team set a new single-season record for scoring average at 307.91. It was almost two full strokes better than the previous mark of 309.40.
The highlight of the season was the final day at the Tim Tierney Pioneer shootout, which is the last tournament completed that year. The Eagles had a challenging day one, shooting their highest round of the season at 327. However, the top-4 managed to shave 32 strokes on the second day to propel Biola all the way up to fourth place.
InÂ
2018-19, the Eagles put their stamp on the conference as one of the PacWest's best programs. With the addition of standout freshman Penor, the Eagles won the NCCAA National Championship in the fall before finishing second at the PacWest Championships the following April with four all-tournament players. Penor, Jules Loibl and Alexis Gopfert each earned All-PacWest honors as the team set new program record for individual single-round score (Sami Penor - 70), team scoring average (309.40), team 36-hole score (591 at NCCAA West Regionals), among other accomplishments.Â
The
2017-18 season was notable as Biola's first season in NCAA Division II and the PacWest Conference. Coach Carr's women's golf program had one of the most successful seasons of any program at Biola, including a second-place national finish at the National Christian College Athletic Association Championships, two regular season tournament wins and a remarkable third-place finish at the PacWest Conference Championships. Carr helped Alexis Gopfert land on the all-tournament team at the conference championships and led Marcel Manalo to the team's first-ever All-PacWest honors. This team smashed the previous program record for average team score in a single season. This year's mark of 317.87 is an improvement of the previous mark of 329.47 (2016-17). Carr's team also set new program bests for 36-hole and 54-hole tournament team scores and 54-hole tournament individual score. Her top-3 golfers from this year now occupy three of the top-5 spots in the Biola record book for season scoring average.Â
The
2015-16 season was by far the most successful in the history of the Biola Women's Golf program at the time. The team began with a bang as it won the team's first-ever tournament championship by placing first at the Firestorm Fall Invite with a 36-hole total of 644 (+30). The team also finished second at the first-ever Golden State Athletic Conference golf championship and Jasmine Rodriguez earned all-conference honors.
Mychaela Graf was the most notable recruit of Carr's during that 2015-16 season. The freshman won the individual championship in the first two tournaments of the season before moving on to try her hand at professional golf.
Carr increased the Eagles' roster size from three to eight for the
2014-15 season. The team competed in seven tournaments and worked a second-place finish in the GSAC/CalPac NAIA Qualifier tournament.
Carr had a very small roster to work with in
2013-14, so she could not register for a team result in four of the five tournaments the team competed in since she took over as head coach mid-year.
Carr came to Biola in
2010 as an assistant coach for the women's golf program. Since 2010, the Eagles’ have made major strides after consistently finishing near the bottom of the pack. Carr's leadership led the Eagles to two second place finishes and an individual tournament championship in the 2012-13 season.Â
