Biola alumnus Kristin Halte became the 10th head coach of the Biola Softball program in the fall of 2021. Spring 2027 will mark her sixth season leading the Eagles. In the fall of 2023, Halte was named Biola Athletics' Senior Woman Administrator.

Through the Years
2026 Halte guided the Eagles to a 42-23 record and a 28-8 mark in PacWest play, finishing second in both the PacWest regular-season standings and the PacWest Championships. Biola won the NCAA Division II West Regional to advance to the NCAA Division II Super Regional for the first time in program history. The Eagles were named PacWest Team of the Week four times during the season.
The Eagles produced eight All-PacWest selections, including four First Team, one Second Team and three Third Team honorees. DJ Symons highlighted the postseason awards by earning PacWest Pitcher of the Year, PacWest Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year and PacWest Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors, while Kendall Nakano was named the PacWest Player of the Year and Lizzie Byer earned PacWest Freshman of the Year. Nakano, Lillianna Garcia, Jackie Ibarra and Symons all earned all-region recognition, with Nakano receiving First Team honors from both the NFCA and D2CCA and Garcia earning First Team D2CCA All-West Region recognition.
2025 Halte guided the Eagles to a 39-21 record, a 29-7 mark in PacWest play and the program's first PacWest Conference regular-season championship. Biola advanced to the NCAA Division II West Regional and climbed as high as No. 5 in the NCAA West Region rankings. Halte was also named the PacWest Coach of the Year.
The Eagles produced nine All-PacWest selections, including three First Team, four Second Team and two Third Team honorees. Kendall Nakano highlighted the postseason awards by earning PacWest Freshman of the Year honors, while Jackie Ibarra, Alexa Medley and DJ Symons were First Team All-PacWest selections. Ibarra earned NFCA First Team and D2CCA Second Team All-West Region honors after setting Biola's single-season hits record with 85. Nakano set the program's single-season home run record with 16, while Raquel Reyes earned NFCA and D2CCA Second Team All-West Region recognition.
2024 Halte guided the Eagles to a 19-27 record and a fourth-place finish at the PacWest Conference Championships. Biola was named the PacWest Team of the Week once during the season.
Alexa Medley earned First Team All-PacWest honors, while Raylene Roybal was named Second Team All-PacWest as a designated player and Third Team All-PacWest as a pitcher. Kaitlyn Hawkins, Abie Nowak and Brie Nowak also earned Third Team All-PacWest recognition. Roybal was selected to the Concordia Kickoff Classic All-Tournament Team and earned PacWest Pitcher of the Week honors, while Kennadie Tsue was named PacWest Player of the Week.

2023 Halte guided the Eagles to a 29-24 record and a third-place finish at the PacWest Conference Championships. Biola qualified for the NCAA Division II West Regional, was named PacWest Team of the Week four times and hosted the inaugural PacWest Softball Tournament.
Freshman shortstop Colby McClinton headlined the Eagles' postseason honors, earning PacWest Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, First Team All-PacWest, NFCA and D2CCA First Team All-West Region honors, PacWest Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and recognition as a TUCCI/NFCA Freshman of the Year finalist. Raylene Roybal added NFCA/Rawlings Gold Glove honors, First Team All-PacWest recognition in the outfield, Second Team All-PacWest honors as a pitcher, and was a four-time PacWest Pitcher of the Week.
The Eagles totaled seven All-PacWest selections, including three First Team, two Second Team and two Third Team honorees.
2022 Halte guided the Eagles to a 25-18 record, a .581 winning percentage and a third-place finish in the PacWest Conference. Biola earned wins over nationally ranked No. 21 Colorado Mesa and No. 9 Concordia during the season.
Pitcher Paige Austin capped off one of the greatest careers in program history by earning PacWest Pitcher of the Year, D2CCA West Region Pitcher of the Year, NFCA and D2CCA First Team All-America honors, and NFCA/D2CCA All-West Region recognition. Under Halte's guidance, Austin recorded 205 strikeouts, becoming Biola's career strikeout leader.
The Eagles also earned five All-PacWest selections, including four First Team honorees and one Second Team selection.
Coaching Experience
The Biola Softball program has played a big role in Halte's life as a student-athlete and coach. Halte has served as a pitching coach for Biola in parts of nine seasons under Lorie Coleman and Nikki Ragin (Udria). Halte went on to replace Ragin who returned to her alma mater, The University of Oregon, as an assistant coach.
Halte took over a Biola team that made history in 2021, winning Biola’s first team NCAA Division II West Region Championship and appearing in the NCAA Championship Series, ultimately falling to West Texas A&M in three games. During the 2021 season the Eagles posted a 26-16 overall record and went 14-10 in the PacWest. Biola entered the postseason with the number one toughest strength of schedule in the country, regularly facing tough opponents such as Concordia and Azusa Pacific.
Coached by Halte, the Eagles' pitching staff finished just behind Concordia during the 2021 season with a team ERA of 2.07. The Eagles' pitching crew was paced by Biola’s Female Student-Athlete of the Year, Austin. Austin led the PacWest with an ERA of 1.25.
For Halte, taking over the program was more than a promotion, but also a continuation of a family legacy. She will continue to build upon the legacy of her aunt and former Biola head coach, Coleman, had previously built. Halte pitched under Coleman and alongside her twin sister Leslie and cousin Vanessa. “It is a great honor to lead a program that has not only changed my life but has changed the trajectory of my family’s life for years to come,” said Halte.
In between her success as a collegiate coach, Halte served as the head coach at Valencia High School in Placentia, California. During her two seasons at Valencia, Halte helped lead the Tigers to their first playoff win in ten years with an overall record of 17-8.
Halte will rely on her experiences as a Biola student-athlete and assistant coach to help guide Team 29 back to a championship season. “I walked onto the campus as a freshman 14 years ago and it is so awesome to see how God uses all your experiences up until this point to equip you to fill such a role,’ said Halte. “I’m extremely honored to have the privilege of being named the new Head Coach of Biola Softball.”
Personal
Halte completed her Bachelor of Science in Physical Education with emphasis in teaching and coaching with a minor in biblical studies from Biola in 2012. She continued to complete a Master's of Science in Sport Management with a concentration in sport administration at Liberty University in 2016.
She and her husband, Anthony, have two daughters, Hayden and Tyler, and a son, Axel.
