Maust, Miner Wins Highlight Day 2

Biola Swim & Dive closed its season-opener against Simon Fraser on Saturday

LA MIRADA , Calif. --- Biola swimming & diving closed out its two-day dual against Simon Fraser on Saturday at Lansing Pool, with the visitors taking the women's meet 88-60 and the men's meet 90-58 on the second day of competition.

Despite the final scores, the Eagles picked up several individual and relay victories throughout the afternoon. Izzy Maust won the 100 free for the women in 54.55, while Wyatt Miner took the 200 IM for the men in 1:56.35. Miner led a strong showing for Biola in the event, with Zach Ponder finishing right behind him in second at 1:59.80.

Biola also found success in the relays. The women's 200 medley relay saw the Eagles take the top two spots, with Jillian Bean, Lydia Hawthorne, Allison Yancey and Maust winning in 1:51.28. Kylie Montiel, Malia Ciolli, Chloe Colvard and Rachel Munch followed in second with a time of 1:53.13.

The men's 200 free relay of Ben Smith, Henry Bokma, James Darcy and Koen Vos earned another win for Biola, combining for a time of 1:26.82 to edge Simon Fraser's top relay by .34 seconds. The men's 200 medley relay produced an even closer finish, as Biola's group of Jack Green, Jack Snyder, Ponder and Ryan Wells touched in 1:38.65, just one-hundredth of a second behind Simon Fraser.

Individually for the women, Munch was runner-up in the 200 free with a time of 1:58.46. Colvard added a pair of second-place finishes, touching in 2:14.60 in the 200 IM before recording a 1:00.43 in the 100 back. Yancey was close behind in the 100 back, finishing third in 1:00.49.
    

Ciolli and Hawthorne went 2-3 in the women's 100 breast, finishing in 1:09.13 and 1:10.47, respectively. Emilee Elizondo and Bean also finished back-to-back in the 100 fly, taking third and fourth with times of 1:01.15 and 1:01.87.

For the men, Ponder added a runner-up finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:43.82 to go along with his second-place performance in the 200 IM. Tate Fitzgerald took second in the 100 breast at 59.83, while Snyder followed in fourth at 1:00.63.

Jarrod Coy led Biola in the men's 100 fly, finishing third in 51.89, with Darcy taking fifth in 54.25. Vos was runner-up in the 100 free at 47.53, while Coy followed in fourth with a time of 48.10.

Biola's two-day dual against Simon Fraser is now complete. The Eagles return to Lansing Pool on Friday, Oct. 9, to host Alaska Fairbanks.
