Biola Starts With a Sweep

Eagles claim both dual victories over Simon Fraser in season opener

LA MIRADA --- Biola opened its 2026-27 season in front of a packed Lansing Pool on Friday, sweeping both dual scores against Simon Fraser on the first day of a two-day meet. The women topped the Red Leafs 97-82, while the men earned a 98.5-67.5 victory.

Diving got the day started with Biola controlling the boards. Riley Kiernan won both the one-meter (201.50) and three-meter (217.13) events, while Eliana Ko took second in both with scores of 195.46 and 197.18. Suzy Li completed a Biola sweep of the top three on both boards. On the men's side, Thomas Mackey won the one-meter with 106.16 points and the three-meter with 119.10. 


The Eagles carried that success into the pool, beginning the swimming portion of the meet with victories in both 400 medley relays.


Allison Yancey, Malia Ciolli, Emilee Elizondo and Rachel Munch combined for a time of 4:00.12 to take the women's race, edging Simon Fraser by less than a second. The Eagles later bookended the night with another relay victory, as Yancey, Morgan Carles, Izzy Maust and Munch won the 400 free relay in 3:38.67. 


Individually, Chloe Colvard picked up a win in the 100 IM, touching the wall in 1:02.14. Esther Swanson finished runner-up in the 50 free at 25.45, while Yancey took second in the 50 back at 27.83. Addy McCullough added a third-place finish in the 500 free with a time of 5:22.36, and Elizondo placed third in the 50 fly at 26.94. 


The men followed a similar script. Wyatt Miner, Tate Fitzgerald, Jarrod Coy and Koen Vos opened with a victory in the 400 medley relay, narrowly beating Simon Fraser with a time of 3:26.40. Zach Ponder, Ronan Watts, Ben Smith and James Darcy later closed the evening with a win in the 400 free relay at 3:13.05. 


Coy added an individual win in the 50 fly, finishing in 23.53, while Miner took the 100 IM in 53.06. Ponder finished runner-up in the 500 free at 4:50.74, with Coy following in third at 4:53.72.

Vos led Biola in the 50 free with a third-place finish at 21.87, followed closely by Ben Smith in fourth at 21.93. Fitzgerald added a runner-up performance in the 50 breast, touching the wall in 27.13. 

Biola returns to Lansing Pool on Saturday to close out its two-day meet against Simon Fraser.
