Big Day One Performances in the Bay

Eagles record school record, event win and multiple NCAA marks across two meets

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.---The Biola track & field teams traveled up north to compete in the Mike Fanelli Track Classic and the Stanford Invitational.

Mike Fanelli Track Classic
A group of Biola distance runners competed at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic, highlighted by a strong showing in the women's 3000m steeplechase. Jaina Kang led a trio of Eagles with a 17th place finish and a NCAA Provisional time of 10:58.69. Elizabeth Kurtz followed in 27th, recording a personal-best 11:11.59, while Miranda Zakhar rounded out the group with a 54th-place finish in 12:07.99.

Stanford Invitational
The Eagles took on 11 events at the Stanford Invitational and recorded a number of exciting finishes.

Bethany Mapes placed fourth out of 19 runners in the 5,000 meters, clocking a personal-best 16:21.94. She broke her own school record with the performance and met the NCAA provisional qualifying standard.

Joshua Widdows' won the men's 400m hurdles with a speedy time of 51.01. He also broke his own school record and clocked the fastest time in Division II. 

Colby Shamblin and Elias Voris shined in the men's collegiate javelin. Shamblin won the javelin with a throw of 61.82, achieving an NCAA provisional mark. Voris was second place with a throw of 51.66m

Biola had sprinters qualify for the finals in the 100m and 110m hurdles. Eboselulu Omofoma led the way on the women's side, recording an NCAA provisional time of 14.01. On the men's side, Widdows (7th, 14.74) and Brayden Watson (8th, 14.93) both secured spots in the 110m hurdles final.

The Eagles will continue the Mike Fanelli Track Classic and Stanford Invitational tomorrow Saturday, April 4th.
