SAN RAFAEL, Calif.---The Biola softball team fell 2–1 to Dominican on Monday afternoon at Penguin Field, despite a strong outing in the circle from
Kayla Bousquette.
Biola struck first in the second inning. Ariana Banos doubled to right center to start the rally and later came around to score on a fielding error, giving the Eagles a 1–0 lead.
Both teams settled in defensively through the middle innings. Bousquette kept Dominican off the board early, working through traffic and limiting the Penguins to just a handful of hits.
Dominican broke through in the fifth inning. After reaching base on a pair of errors, the Penguins capitalized as a two-RBI single to center field flipped the score (2–1).
Biola threatened late in the sixth inning. Kendall Nakano and Lillianna Garcia recorded back-to-back singles to put runners in scoring position, but Dominican escaped the jam to preserve its lead.
The Eagles were unable to generate a rally in the seventh as Dominican closed out the one-run victory.
In the circle, Bousquette went six innings, allowing just two runs—both unearned—on five hits while striking out three.
Biola totaled seven hits in the game, with Mikala Huskey leading the way with two. Banos added a double and scored the Eagles' lone run.
With the loss, Biola moved to 30–16 on the season and 23–5 in PacWest play.
