Biola Drops Game Two to SOU

Biola tallies 12 hits but Raiders capitalize on early offense in 4-1 decision.

LA MIRADA --- The Biola softball team dropped the second game of the day's doubleheader to the Southern Oregon Raiders by a score of 4-1 at Freedom Field. The Eagles recorded 12 hits in the contest but were unable to convert them into runs as the Raiders used timely hitting and solid pitching to secure the win.

Southern Oregon wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, plating two runs in the top of the first inning with the help of a single, a double and a pair of sacrifice plays to take an early 2-0 lead.

Biola's defense settled in after the opening frame, as DJ Symons delivered a strong outing in the circle. The Senior tossed six innings, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out six. The Eagles backed her with a clean defensive performance, committing no errors.

The Raiders extended their advantage in the fifth inning with a solo home run to center field, pushing the score to 3-0.

Biola answered in the bottom half of the inning. Jackie Ibarra singled up the middle to spark the rally and later crossed home plate on a Kendall Nakano RBI single to left field, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

Southern Oregon added an insurance run in the sixth inning following consecutive singles and an RBI groundout, stretching the lead to 4-1.

The Eagles threatened in their final at-bats, loading the bases with two outs after singles from Alexa Medley Sheard and Ariana Banos and a hit-by-pitch drawn by Nakano. However, Southern Oregon escaped the jam with a game-ending double play to seal the victory.

Nakano and Banos led Biola offensively, each collecting three hits, while Nakano drove in the Eagles' lone run. Medley Sheard and Cami Lara had two hits apiece.

Biola plays next at nationally-ranked No. 14 Cal State San Marcos at 12 and 2:30 p.m. at CSUSM Softball Field.
