REDLANDS, Calif.--- Biola Swim & Dive won both the men's and women's team competitions at the Redlands Pentathlon on Saturday, combining for 33 top-10 finishes and 11 podium performances.
"Saturday was a strong way to close out a good weekend of competition for both programs," stated head coach Nate Harding. "After racing Alaska at home on Friday, our swimmers responded well at the Redlands Pentathlon, with both the men's and women's teams earning first-place finishes. I was especially encouraged by the resilience our women showed in bouncing back from Friday's close loss."
The men's team finished first with 271 points, ahead of Chapman (252.5) and Whittier (190.5). The women also claimed first place with 251 points, edging Alaska Fairbanks (240), while Chapman finished third (190.5).
The Eagles recorded four individual victories across the five-event pentathlon, which featured the 100-yard butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle and individual medley. Wyatt Miner accounted for three victories in the men's 100-yard backstroke, breaststroke and individual medley, while Chloe Colvard won the women's 100-yard backstroke.
Miner's standout performance came in the 100-yard individual medley, where he set a school record with a winning time of 52.51. He also clocked 53.39 in the backstroke and 57.97 in the breaststroke, while adding a runner-up finish in the 100-yard butterfly (51.56).
Jarrod Coy added two third-place finishes for the Eagles, clocking 51.69 in the 100-yard butterfly and 48.36 in the 100-yard freestyle. Zach Ponder also reached the podium with a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (54.18), while Jack Snyder placed fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (59.66).
The men's team finished with 17 top-10 performances across the five events.
On the women's side, Colvard led the Eagles with a winning time of 59.97 in the 100-yard backstroke. Allison Yancey followed closely behind in second (1:00.37), giving Biola the top two finishes in the event.
Emilee Elizondo earned third place in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.02), while Malia Ciolli added another podium finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.57). Izzy Maust narrowly missed the podium, placing fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (55.60).
The women's team totaled 16 top-10 finishes, with Colvard and Yancey each recording four.
The Redlands Pentathlon capped a busy weekend for Biola Swim & Dive, which also had its divers competing at Pepperdine.
Biola returns to competition October 17 at the MPSF Open Water Meet.
