Seventh Inning Rally Falls Short

The Biola Eagles put together a seventh inning rally that fell just short.

IRVINE, Calif.---The Biola Eagles dropped a tight 5-4 decision to Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday morning at the Concordia Kickoff Classic.

The Eagles mounted a late seventh-inning rally that brought the tying run to the plate, but the comeback effort ultimately fell just short. With one out, Ariana Banos singled to spark the rally, and Lizzie Byer kept the inning alive after being hit by a pitch. With two outs, Cami Lara delivered a clutch two-run double to right-center field to pull the Eagles within two at 5-3. Lillianna Garcia followed with a double to left field to score Biola's fourth run, but was thrown out attempting to advance to third.

Biola scored first in the top of the second but Cal State Monterey Bay would answer with five runs in the bottom of the inning.

The Eagles threatened multiple times in the middle innings, putting runners on base in the fourth and fifth, but were unable to capitalize. Byer continued her strong day at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Jackie Ibarra also recorded a pair of hits, going 2-for-4 from the leadoff spot.

Biola finished the game with nine hits and committed no errors, while Cal State Monterey Bay recorded 10 hits in the contest.

DJ Symons started the game for Biola and allowed the Otters six hits and five runs to score. Kayla Bousquette came in relief and threw the rest of the game. Bousquette was efficient in the circle, holding CSUMB to four hits and no runs.

The Eagles moved to 2-1 overall while Cal State Monterey Bay improved to 2-1.
