LA MIRADA--- The Biola men's cross country team swept the PacWest Conference's weekly awards for their performances at the UC Riverside Invitational.
Melt von Molendorff led his team, and PacWest Conference, with a third place finish and a time of 23:36.6 on the 8k course.
"Melt had a really nice breakthrough race," stated head coach Sean Henning. "The goal was to place himself among the leading chase group and stay really patient, slowly and methodically moving up. That's exactly what he did."
Henning continued, "There was a moment where he might have been able to make a break for the leader, but we decided it was best for him to hold off and work on patients. It was the right call and I was proud of him for having great poise throughout the race. We are looking forward to continuing to compete well over the next few weeks, and hopefully he can put himself in some more similar situations where he can compete for the win."
The Eagles finished eighth at the UC Riverside Invite with 251 team points. Biola competed in a field of 24 teams which included 12 Division I squads. BU was the first PacWest Conference school to finish, leading 14th place Concordia (340) and 18th place Fresno Pacific (390). Von Molendorff led the way and was followed by
Grant Miller (29th, 24:56.1),
Isaac Hampson (69th, 24:56.1),
Marcin Stanglewicz (88th, 25:08) and
Joshua Klausmeier (116th, 25:23.5) rounded out Biola's top five.
