Eagles Wrap Up Challenging Double Feature at Lancer Invite

Biola took on a pair of DI opponents on Friday to kick off a busy weekend.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Biola men's water polo battled through a difficult Friday at the Lancer Invitational, facing off against two formidable Division I opponents in No. 14 California Baptist and Cal State Fullerton. Despite the outcomes, the Eagles showed resilience and flashes of offensive momentum in both matchups.

Game 1: No. 14 California Baptist 17, Biola 9
The Eagles opened their day against a nationally ranked Lancer squad that wasted no time jumping out to a lead, putting up five goals in the opening quarter. Biola's response came from Noah Ryznar, who capped a strong outing with a hat trick and an assist. Gavin McKenzie also added two goals, while freshman Xander Trevitt and Kyle Seifen each chipped in scores.

Biola put together a nice stretch in the third quarter, landing four goals and going even in the eight-minute stretch. Three-unanswered goals cut into the deficit but the Eagles could not pull within striking distance in the 17-9 defeat.

Game 2: Cal State Fullerton 12, Biola 8
In the afternoon session, Biola faced off against Cal State Fullerton in what proved to be a more competitive contest. Caleb Hernandez delivered a standout performance, scoring four goals—including two in the third quarter alone—to keep Biola within range.

The Titans used a six-goal second quarter to create separation. The Eagles fought back in the fourth with goals from Nick Murray, Beau Gendron, and Hernandez again, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

Despite dropping both matches, Biola saw solid contributions from several returners and newcomers alike. Hernandez totaled four goals across the two games, while Ryznar and McKenzie each continued their consistent scoring streaks. Goalie Mason Pellens recorded 11 total saves on the day.

Biola men's water polo will be back in action on Saturday, facing a pair of ranked teams, including No. 7 UC Davis and No. 15 UC Irvine.
