Delivering in the Clutch

Biola pulled out a magnificent win on Friday night, going the distance against visiting Westmont to maintain its five-match home winning streak.

LA MIRADA --- In front of Chase Gymnasium, Biola volleyball delivered one of its most thrilling wins of the year, outlasting Westmont in five sets (25–16, 22–25, 24–26, 25–15, 15–11). The Eagles leaned on career-best efforts and clutch execution down the stretch to improve to 7-3 on the season.

Biola opened strong in the first, riding Kendall Vandertuig and Hannah Hanson to a commanding 25-16 win. Vandertuig set the tone with a pair of early kills, while Payton Tully and Madison Moore added steady points at the net with a combined seven kills in set one.

Westmont responded with back-to-back set wins to put Biola's home winning streak in jeopardy. The Warriors pulled out a tight 25-22 second set behind strong serving, and edged a back-and-forth third frame 26-24 despite multiple late kills from Vandertuig.

The Eagles answered with their best stretch in the fourth. The score hung close at 13-12 before the BU squad took off. Biola finished the set on a 12-3 run, as five different Eagles logged a kill in the stretch for a 25-15 finish, while forcing a fifth set.

In the race to 15, Hannah Guzzetti and Vandertuig carried the attack. An ace from Vandertuig pushed Biola's lead to 8-3, and after Westmont trimmed the margin to 13–11, the Eagles capped it off with a kill from Guzzetti for the 15–11 clincher.

Statistically, it was a career night for Biola's leaders. Vandertuig posted a career-high 26 kills, her second 20-kill match of the year, to go along with 11 digs and four aces for 31.5 total points. Hanson notched her third triple-double of the season with 11 kills, 24 assists, and 15 digs. Tully added 12 kills at a .440 clip, while Guzzetti contributed seven kills and four block assists. In the back row, Sophia Knevelbaard thrived as the starting libero with a career-best 29 digs.

As a team, Biola hit .266 with nine service aces and eight total blocks, showcasing resilience in a match that featured 20 tie scores and six lead changes.

The Eagles will look to carry the momentum into next week, facing Hawaii Pacific at home on Wednesday at 6:00 pm.
